4 Mistakes Brides Make When Dress Shopping

Hibu Websites • November 16, 2021

Perhaps one of the most important decisions a bride will make before her wedding is the selection of her wedding dress. After all, we all want the first wedding dress we buy to be our last wedding dress. You only have one chance to dazzle not only your guests, but most importantly, your partner. Additionally, there are a lot of expectations riding on your wedding dress. Everyone wants their dress to reflect them, while at the same time being as flattering as possible. With that in mind, let's explore some of the biggest mistakes you can m while venturing into bridal shops.

1. Trying Too Many Dresses

You may feel as if you want to try on every possible silhouette and as many dresses as possible before deciding on the one. This can be a huge mistake, however. According to Popsugar, 30% of all brides will actually try on less than three dresses before deciding on the one they want; just 22% will try on more than 10 dresses before making that final decision. If you try on too many dresses, you may become confused and overwhelmed. Keep it simple, and move on from the shop if you haven't found the one after so many dresses.

2. Bringing Too Many Guests

You may want to bring your mother, your sisters, and your friends, but keep the list limited. People may want to help, but that will often lead to confusion if you have too many opinions interjecting during your appointment. Ultimately, your opinion is what matters most. Keep that in mind while shopping.

3. Going Over Budget

As important as your wedding is, you don't want to break the bank on a dress you'll only wear once. Have a budget that you can afford in mind, and stick to it. Be firm with your consultant and your onlookers. Don't spend more on a dress than you are completely comfortable with.

4. Forming Preconceived Notions

You may think that a mermaid dress would be perfect for you, but perhaps you're more suited to a sheath silhouette. Don't put too much stock in preconceived notions that you develop before actually trying on a dress. Make sure that you're open to being surprised.

Ultimately, shopping for a wedding dress is meant to be fun. Don't let yourself become too overwhelmed, and don't forget to enjoy yourself during the process.
